A revised grading sheet arrives during a bid. A note sends you to another detail. Two disciplines appear to show different work. Before measuring more, you need to know which information controls.

Foundations connects those decisions to a repeatable process. It is designed for complete beginners, field professionals moving into estimating and junior estimators who want stronger fundamentals.

Eight modules, connected by one project

1. Welcome to Civil Estimating — understand the estimator’s role and responsible use of project information.
2. Understanding the Bid Package — organize the information behind a bid and identify missing or unclear requirements.
3. Document Control & Revisions — follow issued changes and establish the current document set.
4. Construction Plan Reading — connect plans, notes, details and disciplines.
5. Scale, Measurement & Construction Math — verify scale and units before measuring and calculating.
6. Specifications, Notes & Scope — identify what the work includes and support scope decisions with sources.
7. Takeoff Fundamentals — prepare an organized basic takeoff for seven defined items.
8. Takeoff Quality Control — audit supplied takeoff work and explain corrections or unresolved issues.

Project 001 is an original fictional CEA training project. Its coordinated plans and bid documents create realistic estimating decisions. A request for information clarifies a question; an addendum formally changes the bid information. Learners follow that document trail rather than treating every sheet as equally current.

Practice, explain and check

The learning approach connects worked examples, supported practice and independent demonstration. Feedback should explain why an answer works, what needs correction and how to try again. The approved design direction includes “Walk me through it,” “Let me try” and “Challenge me” support options; these do not represent three different courses.

What Foundations demonstrates

Build a controlled bid-document basis, interpret civil project information, produce a source-traceable basic takeoff for a defined assignment, and audit a supplied takeoff for a defensible estimator handoff.

The supplied work reviewed in the final quality-control module is not represented as a learner’s independent full-project takeoff. Foundations does not demonstrate complete independent earthwork modeling, pricing, production planning or equipment selection. No additional Foundations capstone is included in this release.

What comes next

Foundations completion records fulfillment of the course requirements. It does not award a professional credential. See course completion and CEA certification and the planned Earthwork Takeoff Specialist program.

Public enrollment is not open. Course pricing, dates, duration and software-access arrangements have not been announced.
