Meet Mark Phillips
Mark Phillips is a senior civil construction estimator and the founder of Civil Estimating Academy. His practical experience with bids shaped the academy’s focus: realistic project documents, a disciplined process and skills that can be demonstrated.
Mark has been hired into estimating roles that listed bachelor’s-degree expectations even though he does not hold a bachelor’s degree. That is Mark’s experience. Employer requirements vary. It is not a promise that a particular course will replace a degree or secure employment.
A useful bridge between knowing and doing
Knowing what a line on a drawing represents is one step. Deciding whether it belongs in your scope, finding the current requirement and explaining a quantity is another. CEA is built around that connection.
The intended audience includes complete beginners, field professionals moving into the office and junior estimators improving their skills. Shared objectives keep the expected competence clear; flexible support helps people approach the work from different starting points.
Realistic documents, original training projects
Mesa Vista Retail Center is CEA’s original fictional Project 001. Its plans, clarifications and revisions support realistic estimating decisions without treating a real client’s protected bid package as public course content.
